Diagnostic laparoscopy

Diagnostic laparoscopy is a procedure in which a laparoscope (thin delicate tubular instrument) is inserted into the abdomen through small incisions to visualise the internal organs like outside of the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries and other surrounding organs.

It is advised to confirm or compliment the findings suggested by other diagnostic modalities like ultrasonography and hysterosalpingogram. The common conditions where diagnostic laparoscopy is done includes:

  • To look for blockage of fallopian tubes and other causes of infertility
  • Diagnose and confirm endometriosis
  • Evaluate the cause of pelvic pain
  • Examine any tissue overgrowth
